The Edmonton ICE District has Grown into Phase Two
Last week, an Open House was held by the ICE District in order to outline the plan and vision for Phase Two Development of the area to the North of Rogers Place. The goal is to develop around the Arena to make it the central focus of the ICE District once all Phases reach completion.
Phase Two is currently a 13+ Acre Site that is being used for parking. This will be transformed into an Urban Village that will become home to about 3,000 residential units, complimentary retail components and an office provision. Depending on the municipal approvals from the City of Edmonton, the developers expect that the residential towers closest to the Arena will be between 30 and 40 storeys tall. There will be large green spaces surrounding the towers, including a green space atop of a retail and commercial podium. This Phase will integrate seamlessly with Phase One to create a cohesive, walkable, pedestrian friendly environment.
Construction on Phase Two is expected to begin mid-2018. Development will move forward on the second phase prior to the completion of Phase One, while opening of the properties in Phase Two could be in five to ten years (ICE District Properties).
As a reminder to anyone who has not seen the full vision of the first phase of the ICE District, the following video outlines at length the energy and development that this new district has and continues to bring to our City of Champions.
